The Environmental Health & Safety Services department supports the University by promoting a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible campus. The department works to ensure that no member of the campus community experiences diminished health, functional capacity, or life expectancy due to any condition or practice at Middle Tennessee State University. MTSU strives to model environmental, health, and safety excellence by encouraging responsible practices across all academic and operational areas.
The main areas of emphasis include:
- Protecting the health and safety of the campus community by ensuring that University policies, procedures, and practices minimize risk for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Promoting safe work practices that preserve University resources and minimize the institution’s environmental footprint.
- Encouraging awareness, understanding, and accountability for environmental, health, and safety issues within each academic discipline.
- Sharing best practices with peer institutions to advance environmental health and safety performance within the state and local community.
- Providing and maintaining safe working environments that minimize the risk of injury, illness, or exposure to hazardous conditions.
