Energy Management

The Energy Services Department (Central Plant) plays a critical role in delivering reliable heating and cooling services to academic and residential facilities. Its primary functions include:

• Produce and distribute steam, domestic hot water, and chilled water to support heating and cooling needs for academic buildings and residential facilities across campus.
• Serve as the central hub for campus utility infrastructure, ensuring reliable delivery of thermal energy and chilled water to maintain comfort and operational continuity.
• Operate and maintain diverse HVAC systems, including legacy steam and chiller networks as well as modern high-efficiency technologies like cogeneration systems.
• Provide 24/7 monitoring and operational oversight of the central plant to guarantee safe, efficient, and uninterrupted service for students, faculty, and staff.
• Manage equipment performance and respond to utility-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain energy reliability for critical campus functions.
• Support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives by partnering on system upgrades, capital projects, and long-term planning to enhance resiliency and reduce environmental impact.
• Enhance student experience by ensuring comfortable living and learning environments, reducing disruptions to classes and housing, and supporting campus sustainability goals that align with student expectations.
