Grounds & Greenhouse Services
The Grounds & Greenhouse Services department is responsible for ensuring that the University’s outdoor environment remains safe, clean, attractive, and functional. First impressions are important, and the appearance of the campus is a vital part of the experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Grounds & Greenhouse Services fulfills this mission by integrating landscape design, maintenance, and horticultural expertise to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the campus.
In addition to general campus landscaping, the department also maintains parking areas, athletic fields (practice, NCAA, and intramural), and other outdoor spaces used by the University community. Their goal is to provide a well-maintained campus environment that reflects the University’s standards and commitment to excellence. Their motto is “Clean and Green.”
The main areas of emphasis include:
- Maintaining campus lawns and plant materials, including mowing, weeding, trimming, and seasonal upkeep.
- Caring for and replacing campus trees, shrubs, and flowers, ensuring the health and longevity of University plantings.
- Controlling litter and maintaining cleanliness of streets, sidewalks, and parking lots across campus.
- Maintaining and preparing all athletic fields to meet University, NCAA, and intramural standards.
- Supporting other University departments and programs through specialized grounds and greenhouse services.
- Managing Greenhouse Services, including the cultivation, care, and distribution of University plants.
- Providing labor and service rates for project planning and estimating purposes.
