Facilities Services

Civil Engineering & Environmental Services

Civil Environmental Engineering provides essential support for new and existing infrastructure on the MTSU campus. The principles and practices of civil engineering guide the design, construction, and maintenance of campus infrastructure to ensure that all facilities are safe, functional, sustainable, and efficient. The department also manages environmental spill response, overseeing cleanup efforts and ensuring compliance with applicable environmental regulations.

The main areas of emphasis include:

  • Hazardous Material Spills: Managing spills involving chemicals, fuels, or other hazardous substances to protect campus safety and environmental quality.
  • Oil and Fuel Spills: Addressing spills originating from vehicles, generators, or maintenance equipment and coordinating proper containment and cleanup.
  • Water and Sewage Spills: Responding to leaks or releases from water supply lines, sewage systems, or related infrastructure components.
  • Construction-Related Spills: Handling spills of construction materials—such as concrete, paint, or solvents—during renovation or building projects.
  • Stormwater Management: Mitigating stormwater runoff during heavy rainfall to prevent flooding, erosion, and environmental impacts.
