Snow Removal Plan
Snow and Ice Removal Overview
Our campus snow and ice response includes a combination of plowing, brooming, shoveling, sanding, and ice melt application. Winter weather conditions and timing greatly affect how quickly we are able to clear all areas.
Snow Removal Priorities
When We Begin:
- As soon as snow sticks to hardscapes or snowfall begins tapering off.
Crew Assignments:
- Crew 1: Sand intersections
- Crew 2: Clear ADA ramps & building entrances
- Crew 3: Plow sidewalks
Priority Areas
- Dorms → Cafeterias: Ensures residential students can access food
- Major campus sidewalks
- Greek Row → JUB
- Walkways from parking lots to campus
- Building access: At least one entrance per building (typically the main entrance)
- Secondary sidewalks & entrances
- Event locations: Cleared before scheduled events when possible
Ongoing Conditions
- If snow continues, the process repeats
- Secondary areas may remain uncleared until snowfall stops
Equipment Used
- 3 snowplows with broom attachments
- Backhoe for sanding intersections
- Shovels & brooms for ADA ramps and entrances
- Ice melt on ADA ramps and near building entrances
- We do NOT have: brining equipment or street plows for parking lots
What to Expect
- Your usual route may not be cleared
- There will always be at least one safe, accessible building path
Challenges
- Cold affects equipment reliability; keeping plows running is difficult
- Crews may arrive before main roads are treated
- Long hours in difficult weather
